Tuning: Standard, E A D G B E
Hello! This version of "Viva la Vida" is my interpretation of the following performance:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-el3KkA5zK8
I cannot say with certainty that this is 100% accurate, so if anyone has corrections to be made, please feel
free to comment and I can make the changes accordingly! Also, I'm not well-versed in music theory, so the
names I've decided to give each chord are nominal and purely for playing purposes.
Playing Notes:
If you're unable to fret chords with your left thumb (if you're a righty), then you're going to be unable to
play this version; however, you could play it using only the first set of chords. Muting the verses sounds the
best, but this is a purely subjective opinion. Play it however you'd like!

[Verse 1]
* first set of chords *
I used to rule
the world,
Seas would ris
e when I gave
the word.
Now in the mor
ning I sleep a
lone,
Sweep the stre
ets I used to
own.
x2
I used to roll
the dice,
Feel the fear
in my enemy's
eyes.
Listen as the
crowd would si
ng,
"Now the old k
ing is dead! L
ong live the k
ing!"
One minute I h
eld the key,
Next the walls
were closed o
n me.
And I discover
ed that my cas
tles stand,
Upon pillars o
f salt and pil
lars of sand.
[Chorus]
* second set of chords *
I hear Jerusal
em bells are r
inging,
Roman Cavalry
choirs are sin
ging.
Be my mirror,
my sword and s
hield,
My missionarie
s in a foreign
field.
For some reaso
n I can't expl
ain,
Once you'd gon
e it was never
,
Never an hones
t word.
And that was w
hen I ruled th
e world.

[Verse 2]
It was the wic
ked and wild w
ind,
Blew down the
doors to let m
e in.
Shattered wind
ows and the so
und of drums,
People couldn'
t believe what
I'd become.
Revolutionarie
s wait
For my head on
a silver plat
e.
Just a puppet
on a lonely st
ring,
Oh, who would
ever want to b
e king?
[Chorus]
* second set of chords *
I hear Jerusal
em bells are r
inging,
Roman Cavalry
choirs are sin
ging.
Be my mirror,
my sword and s
hield,
My missionarie
s in a foreign
field.
For some reaso
n I can't expl
ain,
I know Saint P
eter won't cal
l my name,
Never an hones
t word.
And that was w
hen I ruled th
e world.
* first set of chords *
