Notes: The Dsus2 D hammer-on and pull-off in the beginning of the verses are actually a lot
more than I've written, but because of the limited space on a single line, I chose
not to include them. Also, to vary the Em-Em9-Em7 pattern,
you can play them as 075070 (Em9) - 075000 (Em) - 075700 (Em7), and then slide down to the C#m7b5 (042000).
I think Jeff played this way on his live performances, since he is sometimes very high on the neck.
The C in "And sometimes a man must awake to find that really..."
I think is a 8-10-10-988 barred chord which slides down to the high em on "no-one".
He also varies with the x35553 C on live performances.
I guess it's up to you to choose which one suits you best.
The F#5 is a F#m without the 4-6 notes, so effectively a 244xxx chord.
There is another C which is a Cadd9 (3x2013). That is played between the D/Dsus2 and the Em7/9s in the intro.
I have found that a regular C works just as well, but also use this as well as x35553 to vary.
The chord progression in "so I wait for you..." part of the verse/pre-chorus ascends the neck,
marking the bass notes on the low E string. Therefore, the D/F# chord is important here.
I ususally play with the bass notes between the G6/B and the Aadd9/C#,
making it G6/B, C bass, D bass, and then Aadd9/C#. The Cmaj7 that follows is 8x9900.
Most of the chords are taken from Gary Lucas arrangement with special chords
listed. The chord names are taken from Gitarakkorder Deluxe (Norsk Noteservice AS/
Hal Leonard Corporation).
Please let me know if you find anything out of place, and I will correct it. This
is my favourite song, and the reason I started to play guitar, so it has to be perfect.
