Strumming:
Most of the strumming for the verses and choruses I play like this: D DUD D
The Am G fill that ends many lines just goes: D D D D (two strums per chord)

The first three lines of the pre-chorus are simple staccato-ish D D D D etc.
Followed by DU DU DU DUU (Stand up ...)
Then D DUD UD UD D (Take that look ...)
And the last line of the pre-chorus goes:
(Cause you ain't ever) (gonna burn my) (heart ouuuuuuuu) (uuuuuuuuuuuuuut)
