DROPPED TUNING: D-G-C-F-A-d (all strings a whole tone down)

The song sounds in the key of D, but Gerry Rafferty played
his acoustic part on a 12 string, which was tuned down
a full tone, and he played the song in E.
(as can be glimpsed in the band's promo video) This provides
much more bottom end than can be achieved playing it in D.
Using a chromatic tuner will help to get the pitches right.
Always drop slightly below each required note and then tune
back up into the desired pitch.

NOTE:
Please IGNORE ANY CHORD BOXES the website might

All chords are named as if still in standard tuning, but
with the dropped tuning they will sound one whole tone lower
in the key of D. The melody often sings a 7th,
so 7th chords could be ad libbed for variety instead of just
staying on major chords.
On the E and Bm7 at the end of the bridge parts tap an off beat
on the body of your guitar as the chords sustain.
