Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)

Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney; released on the album "Rubber
Soul".

"Norwegian Wood" was written mainly by John. It is mistakenly marked as the
first time a rock band played sitar in a song, although the Yardbirds did
that about half a year before, with a demo recording of "Heart Full Of Soul"
(which wasn't released then, they chose a fuzz-tone guitar instead for the
final recording). The sitar is played by George; it's not much more than repeating the 
vocal melody in the verses and strumming the same one chord in
the bridges. Two acoustic guitars, bass and percussion (limited to bass drum
and tambourine) make up the rest of the arrangement. The song's lyrics tell
of one of John's affairs.
"Norwegian Wood" was first recorded with a different arrangement (including a
sitar "lick" in the bridges that's absent from the final recording) and
different key.
The song is also notable for being one of the few Lennon-McCartney
compositions in 3/4 (waltz) time, and the key changes between E major and E
minor (just like in "I'll Be Back").
